Faith in Action: Trusting God’s Promises Through Delays and Trials

Have you ever been tempted to think or believe that nothing seems to be working in your life? Have you also been in the place where you believed that something was promised and yet it did not come to pass? Each of us has an area or areas of life that we are standing in faith for a breakthrough, a change, a manifestation, a miracle. How do we reconcile the fact that God says He is true to His Word and yet what He promised did not happen? When this happens, it could sow seeds of distrust in our hearts; sometimes of God, and sometimes of our ability to hear the Good Shepherd’s voice. We can settle this now – God is the good God and only does good [James 1:17]. Also, this is our confidence, that we always hear Him. John 10:27 - My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Know this; that every promise of God can be ours. I want to assure you that to every promise of God, God only says ‘yes’.

2 Corinthians 1:20 states that “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us”. God is not holding out on us; He is the good God. God’s Word filled with His promises for us is His will for us. If He promised it, He has already accomplished it in Christ. We are already blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ. We just have to take it; we have to decide it’s ours; we have to choose. How do we choose? We choose by using our faith to appropriate the promise. Faith can take anything that grace provides.

1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him”. God’s Word in the bible or His specific Word spoken to us in our spirits or the prophetic word are all declarations of His will, His plan or His intentions for us.

Maybe you believe that God’s will comes to pass no matter what we do, but that’s not true. The issue is that it takes more than God, for God’s Word to come to pass. God requires our participation for His promise to come to pass. As an example, God desires that no one should perish [2 Peter 3:9] but not everyone is saved. People must be preached to and they must be willing to receive the finished work of Jesus. God’s will does not automatically come to pass. We must do our part. What is our part? We must exercise our God-given authority over the enemy [Mark 11:23]; contend for the Word to come to pass in our lives; and by staying focused on the promise and not on the problem [Hebrews 12:2]. We also must exercise the force of patience to work with our faith. Patience is the ability to stand fast in the Word of God even when the manifestation seems delayed. Patience is the bridge to experiencing the promises of God. I encourage you to hold fast to your confession of faith. Delay is not denial.

Yours in His service,
