When Jesus commanded that we love the Lord our God, with all our heart, soul and mind; and others as we love ourselves, He was speaking prophetically. Jesus was pointing to the dawn of a new covenant, a new era, a new way of life in which God’s people will be capable to live daily by the love of God. Just as an electric product requires electricity to function so do, we as Christians require the love of God to function effectively as Christians.
When we got saved, born again, we became a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), a specie of being that had never existed, and the love of God was shed abroad in our hearts (Romans 5:5). Galatians 5:22-23 shows us that just as it is natural for an apple tree to bear apples, so it is natural for us to bear or produce the fruits of the Spirit, which includes love fruit. Love flows through us into the lives of others as we stay connected to the source of love, God our Father by abiding in Him (through the Word and prayer).
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 describes the characteristics of the God kind of love. Child of God, you are made in the image of our Father God, and He is love. God intends for you to reflect Him to the world. Everywhere you see the word love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, it’s talking about you. Be bold, write your name in the place of the word love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 and make that your declaration of faith. It is time to bear some love fruit.
